Sugarhouse Lake!

I was at Sugar House Park with my son the other day. I could not believe the amount of water flowing through the park. The pond now is at the base of the snow sledding hill!

I was a little kid back in 1983 when State Street flooded, and I barely remember that. 900 inches of snow in the Utah mountains this past winter is shaping out to be an amazing water year for Utah, and the intermountain west! The Great Salt Lake is up 4 feet since the record low was recorded back in November. The marina is showing signs of life. Lake Powell’s water levels are on the rise.

We can only hope for a few more record snow winters for Utah. The next couple of months could be trying for some Utahns, with streams, creeks, and rivers turning neighborhood streets into small rivers.

Now is the time for all of us to really start conserving water! This certainly is not the time to be over-watering lawns and flower beds. Get out there, enjoy spring, and remember to be careful around creeks, and streams. Watch your kids, animals, and loved ones. Most importantly, don’t waste water. Last winter was a gift from mother nature!
