Dame Time in Utah – Damian Lillard Shoots the Lights Out

Damian Lillard won the NBA Three-Point Contest for the first time on Saturday as part of All-Star Weekend in Utah. And he did it while repping his college alma mater, Weber State. While launching threes, Dame wore his old Weber State jersey. The eleven-year vet faced tough competition from some of the NBA’s best shooters, including former contest winner Lauri Markkanen, Jayson Tatum, and Buddy Hield, a former winner of the contest in 2020. The competition consisted of two rounds. Jazzman and all-star Markkanen, Hero, Huerter, Randle, and Taytum were eliminated in the first round. While Lillard, Hield, and Haliburton made enough threes to qualify for the last round.

Dame told the media he felt confident about his chances of winning and doing so would be a career milestone. During the press conference, he also stated that he might not be the best shooter of all time (he didn’t name who is the best, but everyone knows it’s Steph Curry), but with his shooting prowess, he could stand toe-to-toe with anyone else in the league’s history. And he proved that in the second round by sinking enough threes to win the contest.

Dame also made the all-star team as a reserve. He was Giannis’ first pick in the draft among the reserves. The former Weber State guard scored twenty-six points and made the game-winning shot, again proving Dame Time is timeless.
